Honor Teachers

I went to a benefit concert at a local college last week.  I was watching a young man schmoozing the crowd while I waited for the concert to start;  I assumed he worked for one of the businesses sponsoring the concert.  Eventually the young man approached the row of seats I was in and stopped in front of me.  He asked, "Do you recognize me?"  Of course, one of my former students.  We had a nice chat, and then he said he wanted to introduce me to the person behind me, who was the dean of the college.  The young man put his arm around me, turned to the dean, and said, "This is Mrs. ____, my sixth grade math teacher."   He said it as if I were the most important person in the room.   I went home feeling honored and appreciated.  Every teacher needs and deserves a moment like that.  There are students walking through your doors every day who feel the same way about you; they're kids, and they don't know how to tell you.  So, on behalf of all the students for whom you work so hard, thank you.  Keep up the good work.
